PEI 2025 Budget
The 2025 Prince Edward Island (PEI) budget, announced April 10th, has introduced significant advancements in healthcare, focusing on expanding virtual care, launching mobile dental services, empowering pharmacists to treat strep throat, and improving access to essential medications.

Expansion of Virtual Care
The budget allocates $4.8 million to expand virtual care services, enabling residents to access healthcare professionals through phone, video, or text consultations. This initiative is designed to reduce wait times, improve access for rural communities, and provide convenient healthcare solutions for all residents.
Introduction of Mobile Dental Services
To address dental care disparities, the government is launching mobile dental clinics. These clinics will travel across the province, providing essential dental services to underserved communities, including children, seniors, and low-income families.
Pharmacists Treating Strep Throat
In a move to alleviate pressure on primary care providers, the budget empowers pharmacists to diagnose and treat strep throat. This change allows residents to receive timely care for common ailments at their local pharmacies, reducing the burden on clinics and emergency rooms.
Better Access to Medications
The budget also includes measures to improve access to essential medications. There is $7.9M in new funding for enhancements to diabetes, contraception and rare disease medications.
